The short answer
Paediatricians advise against gripe water for babies. It is not recommended and does not treat infant colic.
How to serve at each age
6 Months: STRICTLY FORBIDDEN under 6 months. Strongly discouraged under 12 months.
7 to 8 Months: NOT RECOMMENDED. May contain sodium bicarbonate or unregulated alcohol.
9 to 11 Months: NOT RECOMMENDED.
12+ Months: Avoid routine usage. Consult a pediatrician for persistent abdominal distress.
Safety & choking prevention
CLINICAL SAFETY ALERT: Paediatricians advise against gripe water for infants. Many gripe water products contain sodium bicarbonate (which alters normal gastric acidity and impairs iron absorption) or unlisted alcohol/sugar. It can cause metabolic alkalosis and introduces unnecessary foreign substances into infant kidneys.
Allergy notes
May trigger sensitivities to herbal extracts like dill oil, fennel, or preservatives.
Nutritional benefits
No clinical evidence supporting efficacy over placebo in randomized controlled trials
